Weekly Sports Roundup

Another week, another sports blog by your humble Clipper Sports crew; and it’s a great time to be a sports fan.

In EvCC news, the Trojans baseball team cannot be stopped. They swept the four game series against Olympic College, upping their win streak to 10 in a row and giving them a 31-6 record on the year. The Trojans play Douglas College this weekend starting on Saturday May 4 (be with you).

The first round of the NHL playoffs began yesterday, and in true hockey playoff fashion, the games didn’t disappoint. Chicago and St. Louis both won in overtime by scores of 2-1, while Anaheim stunned Detroit 3-1 at home.

The second batch of games start today, with the New York Islanders taking on Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Montreal, the New York Rangers and Washington DC, Toronto taking on Boston and San Jose faces off against Vancouver (watch for riots).

Speaking of hockey, NHL.com put together the best goals, saves, and hits of the year, and just watching those kids put the biscuit in the basket, stop the puck on the doorstep, and put the body on ‘em really makes you proud to be a hockey fan, eh? (Sorry, I just went full blown Canadian for a second.)

In the NBA…well, I’m sure nobody really wants to hear anything about basketball after the NBA Relocation Committee recommended unanimously not to move the Sacramento Kings to Seattle. The final decision on the fate of the Kings will be decided around May 13. Here’s how the bracket is shaping up so far for the NBA playoffs.

Boston and New York, Houston and Oklahoma City, and Atlanta and Indianapolis are on tap for tonight’s basketball action.

Mariners lost again to Baltimore last night 7-2, but somehow they’re in third place; ahead of the Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim and Houston. M’s outfielder Michael Saunders is back from the disabled list, and Mike Morse has decided that he’ll hit home runs again.
